Participants of the Smart Mining & Metals forum recorded a change in the trend in the digitalization of the mining industry. Companies no longer choose just one deployment pattern IT infrastructure — cloud (SaaS) or local (on-premises). Instead, they combine both approaches based on the specific task and level of security required.
Industry today operates in harsh conditions. There is a widespread shortage of computing power and skilled workers, while costs continue to rise. Added to this are cyber attacks, software and hardware shortages, tightening regulatory requirements and expensive system scaling.
In such a situation, flexibility becomes a critical factor. Cloud services allow you to quickly implement solutions and scale them without large initial investments. Local circuits, in turn, are indispensable for processing confidential data and managing critical production systems, where dependence on external providers is unacceptable.
Technology companies are adapting to this demand. They develop platforms with built-in security and give businesses the right to choose: work in a public cloud, in a private data center or in a hybrid environment. For example, corporate services (mail, documents, disks, video conferencing) are increasingly being transferred to the local circuit, creating an isolated environment with access control at the enterprise level.
This is how it is formed hybrid model, which allows you to adapt the infrastructure to the scale and objectives of a particular company, optimize costs and at the same time comply with security requirements. At the same time, the services themselves – like Yandex 360 with its Disk, Documents, Boards and Browser – can be used both in the cloud and locally, receiving updates regardless of the deployment model.
Thus, the digital transformation of industry has finally abandoned the principle of “one model for all cases.” The future is hybrid, where each tool operates in the environment where it is most effective and safe.
