ALROSA has approved a large-scale investment project for the development of the Udachnaya kimberlite pipe in Yakutia. Thanks to the new solution, one of the largest in the world deposits diamond production will operate for another 16 years, providing a significant contribution to Russian production volumes.
ALROSA has extended the production period at the unique Udachnaya pipe in Yakutia. This facility is one of the company’s most important assets and produces over 10% of all Russian diamonds. To maintain production, an investment project for the development of deep horizons of the field was approved.
Mining operations will be deepened to minus 780 meters from the surface, which is about 1.13 kilometers. This will allow the company to continue efficient development of reserves. The total investment in the project exceeds 20 billion rubles.
Construction and installation work is planned to be carried out in parallel with the deepening of the quarry. The project is planned for a long period and should be completed by 2040. According to ALROSA General Director Pavel Marinychev, from 2025 to 2055 it is planned to produce about 4.1 million tons of diamond ore annually at the deposit. The expected annual profit from activities is estimated at almost 6 billion rubles.
It is important to note that the project has passed all the necessary examinations, including Glavgosexpertiza, and its feasibility study has already been approved. This ensures that all standards are met and future work is efficient.
Thus, ALROSA’s decision not only extends the life of a strategically important deposit, but also strengthens Russia’s position in the global diamond market. The implementation of the project will ensure a stable supply of diamonds for decades to come.
