St. Petersburg Mining university and Gazprom Dobycha Shelf Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk took cooperation to a new level by concluding an academic partnership agreement. This gives students a unique chance to undergo long-term practice at the advanced Kirinsky gas condensate plant field.
The new format of interaction provides for closer involvement of the company in the educational process. The company’s specialists, together with the university department, evaluate students’ production skills and participate in the defense of diploma projects. The status of “Production Mentor” has been introduced for gas production holding employees working with trainees.
The practice is organized on the basis of the Beregovoy technological complex of the Kirinskoye field, where gas is prepared to marketable parameters. Students get acquainted with the work of oil and gas production operators and mechanics repairing technological installations. This allows future engineers to gain a deeper understanding of manufacturing processes.
The selection procedure includes review of questionnaires, medical examination and checks. The company provides full support for students at all stages – from preparing documents to resolving everyday issues. Trainees live in a comfortable camp with all the necessary infrastructure: a canteen, a gym, and recreation areas.
Successful practices can develop into a final internship with an employment contract for eight weeks. The company offers a competitive social package for young professionals. The starting salary is about 100 thousand rubles, and taking into account northern bonuses, after 2.5 years it reaches 150 thousand rubles. There are also “lift” payments for those moving to Sakhalin.
This partnership is an important step in training highly qualified personnel for the Russian oil and gas industry. It allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, and companies to train their future personnel taking into account the most modern offshore production technologies.
