The ST-Element company has begun developing Bolshetagninskoe deposits, located in the north-west of the Sayan mountain range. There are plans to build a mining and processing plant (GOK) and a metallurgical plant for the production of ferroniobium, an important component for the production of special steels.
The company received a license to develop the field in August 2023. The validity period of the permit is 27 years. According to preliminary estimates, up to 20 thousand tons of niobium concentrate and 10 thousand tons of ferroniobium will be produced here annually.
“Rare metals are extremely in demand in high-tech industries,” notes Vasily Rakitin, director of ERT-Group. “They are used to create superconductors, electromagnets and especially strong alloys.”
The total investment in the project is estimated at 29 billion rubles. Recently, the management of ERT-Group met with the Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Igor Kobzev. During the negotiations they discussed the development of the mining industry in the region and the prospects for new projects.
The start of work is timed to coincide with Metallurgist Day, which emphasizes the significance of the event for the industry. The implementation of the project will strengthen Russia’s position in the rare metals market and create new jobs.
The development of the Bolshetagninskoye field is an important step for Russian industry. The project will provide raw materials to metallurgical enterprises and contribute to the development of high-tech industries. The next stages include the construction of infrastructure and the launch of processing facilities.
